HOW TO WEAR JEWELRY IN THE SUMMER WITHOUT HARMING YOUR SKIN OR YOUR ACCESSORIES by Maria Nunez

Practical tips for taking care of your jewelry (and your skin) during the warm months

Summer means sun, beach, outdoor cafes and little getaways — but it can also be a challenge for both our jewelry and skin if we don't take certain precautions. Today I want to share some simple tips with you so you can enjoy the summer in style and take care of both your accessories and your well-being.

☀️ 1. Choose materials that can withstand summer
Not all jewelry reacts the same way to heat, sweat, or salt water, so it's best to choose durable materials like:

Stainless steel – resistant to sweat, water and daily use. It doesn't rust and rarely loses its shine, making it ideal for summer.
Natural stones – beautiful and with energizing properties. Most tolerate heat well if properly cared for.
Glass/beads – shiny, colorful and elegant. Just avoid hard impacts and excessive contact with chemical products.

📝 What about materials like gold, silver or copper?

They are beautiful but require more care: silver can darken with sweat and air, copper can discolor the skin, and while gold is durable, it is more sensitive to chemicals and impacts. If you are looking for practical and robust summer solutions, stainless steel, natural stones and glass are excellent choices.

🧴 2. Take care of your skin and avoid irritation

In the summer we sweat more and use sunscreen, perfume and lotions – and this, in combination with jewelry, can cause discomfort or irritation.

Good advice:

• Wait at least 15 minutes after applying sunscreen or perfume before putting on your jewelry.
• If you sweat a lot, choose smaller jewelry or wear it in cool environments.
• Cleanse your skin and jewelry in the evening to avoid product buildup.

💧 3. Can I swim with my jewelry on?

With stainless steel, you can basically swim without any problems, but it is always a good idea to take off your jewelry if you are going to the sea or a pool with chlorine - to maintain the shine and avoid unnecessary wear.

With natural stone or glass, it is recommended to avoid prolonged contact with water. Although they appear robust, they can lose color or become weakened over time without proper care.

4. How to clean your jewelry after a summer day

A simple ritual that makes a big difference:
• Use a soft, dry cloth to clean your jewelry at the end of the day. This doesn't have to be done every day – but it's best to do it regularly.

• If you have sunscreen residue on your jewelry, you can lightly dampen the cloth with lukewarm water (without soap or strong chemicals).
• Store your jewelry in a cool place, away from direct sunlight and heat.

🎒 5. Tips for taking jewelry on vacation

• Use a small cloth bag for each piece of jewelry (cloth bags are perfect!).
• Avoid storing them together in your toiletry bag – this will prevent scratches and tangling.

• Bring versatile jewelry that you can wear both day and night.

❤️ Extra: Take care of what you love

Summer doesn't mean you have to hide your favorite jewelry. Quite the opposite! It's the perfect time to show it off – you just have to take the right precautions to enjoy it to the fullest.

And remember: true glow comes from being yourself. If a piece of jewelry makes you smile – wear it with pride!
