ARTISAN JEWELRY

Mass production jewelry has become popular nowadays because its production cost is cheaper... but where are concepts like design or quality?

It is very important to take into account the work and love that artisans put into their pieces. We dedicate time not only to the elaboration, but also to the design and search for materials.

To have a more objective view of artisan jewelry and because we must recognize all the aspects related to it, we must start by knowing the basic concepts.

WHAT IS ARTISAN JEWELRY?

Handcrafted jewelry is a centuries-old art that, unlike mass-produced jewelry, emphasizes other aspects such as:

- Design
- Individual production
- Handcrafted production
- Unique finish of the pieces
- Quality and versatility of the materials

DESIGN

There are multiple techniques for the production of handcrafted jewelry pieces, which allows each artisan to make their own designs (or even personalized ones) and adapt them to the client according to size, color, preference of materials, etc.

Some of the most used techniques are:

- Casting, normally used with precious metals such as gold or silver.

- Wire weaving, which is used to weave with wire, normally copper in different thicknesses, achieving beautiful interweaving.

- Weaving with pearls, either on a loom or with thread. It allows for multiple designs varying colors, thickness, length, etc. in the pearls.

- Assembly of pieces using a handcrafted and personalized assembly.

INDIVIDUAL PRODUCTION, HAND-MADE AND UNIQUE FINISH

These three concepts are inseparable since, to make the jewel that we have designed, all three must be intertwined.

By making each piece individually we obtain a unique and professional finish that can be appreciated by observing them.

Hand-made allows the design to be more precise and we obtain a much more sophisticated and beautiful appearance.

QUALITY AND VERSATILITY OF MATERIALS

The artisan jeweler dedicates a lot of time and effort to finding the best materials, which can range from metals and precious stones (such as gold, diamonds, emeralds, sapphires, etc.) to semi-precious stones (such as turquoise, agate, moonstone, etc.) that often have beneficial properties for health.

Aspects such as hypersensitivity to certain metals are also taken into account.

Once the materials have been obtained, we can carry out different works, taking appropriate advantage of the quality, quantity and versatility of the materials.

In short, the work of a craftsman involves many aspects, dedication and mastery of techniques to achieve a product with the design, quality and finish that the client deserves.

I hope that you found this article interesting and that it helped you to clarify concepts that will make you appreciate handmade jewelry from another point of view, as well as craftsmanship in other products.

Este artículo es muy interesante porque se centra en los aspectos básicos. Aunque sabía que la artesanía implicaba mucho trabajo no tenía idea de que tuviera detrás todo este proceso. Enhorabuena, espero que sigas escribiendo en tu blog
